Michelle Pfeiffer and “How to Make Love Like an Englishman” with Pierce Brosnan: New Project!?!?
It seems that finally there’re news about a new project for Michelle Pfeiffer.
The news’ just jumped on Variety, it was talked that Splendid Film, the German distribution company, had acquired several films for German-speaking territories and the Benelux countries. Among them a a romantic comedy titled “How to Make Love Like an Englishman” set to star Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Pfeiffer. So it could seem that the project is ready to be filmed

Of course quickly I’ve been looking for this project on the net, but at the moment there’s very little info about it:
It is a project developed by Inferno. The movie tells the story of a Brit Lit professor and one-time playboy Richard Haig (Pierce Brosnsn) finds himself on Love’s battlefield when his trophy wife takes off for L.A. with their son to marry a wealthy young entrepreneur. Richard takes over the guest house and launches a campaign to win them back but finds out that his mother-in-law (Michelle Pfeiffer) can be a very “engaging” opponent. It has been written by Matthew Newman (worked in the TV series “Young Blades”, according IMDb) and will be directed by Gill Junger (who has worked on series as “Dharma & Greg” and “The Golden Girls.” Nominated for an Emmy and a Director’s Guild Award for directing the episode of “Ellen” in which the lead character reveals that she is a lesbian and he broke into feature film directing with “10 Things I Hate About You”, more on IMDb)
Well, and that’s all folks! This time I won’t judge the choices of Michelle… this time I’d like to reserve my opinion… but of course, you can feel free to do it! ;-)
But I’m sure only of a thing, the chemistry between Pfeiffer & Brosnan can be tremendous…
I just will say that this project could be on the line of other romantic comedy with a great expectation these days, “It’s Complicated” starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, and all of them mature actors… But, also I have to say that this movie has been written and directed by Nancy Meyers who also directed such titles as “The Holiday” and “Something’s Gotta Give” (with a plot pretty looked like “Englishman“)
Well, now comes to mi mind those words about playing a mother-in-law told by Michelle during the promotion of Chéri the last Spring (Wales Online – April 24, 2009):
“… I do think there’s a small transitional period for actresses aged between 40 and 50 where you can only play the psychotic mother-in-law or the wife. Most people pick the psychotic mother-in-law because it’s kind of interesting. A number of those have come across my desk, but it was during that four-year period when I wasn’t working.”
If Pfeiffer has picked this role is because perhaps it is more interesting… Who knows? … And on the other hand, Brosnan let know his interest on starring a movie with Michelle when he was asked about whom he would recommend for the female lead in one of his Bond films:
“I would love Michelle Pfeiffer for the next Bond film — or any film I do. I hope there’s at least one film with Pfeiffer in my future.”
So it seems that wishes can come true!
About Inferno, it is a self financed production company with studio distribution, launching its operation in 2002. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles and has additional offices in Germany and Taiwan. Among the movies by Inferno, we can find: The Women starring Meg Ryan, Annette Bening and Eva Mendes; The Good Night with Penélope Cruz, Gwyneth Paltrow and Danny DeVito; and Smother with Diane Keaton and Liv Tyler. And you can find more upcoming at the site of the company.

If she does do the film, at least it will be in the type of role I prefer to see her in — romantic leading lady. As good as she was in “Hairspray” and “Stardust”, they did not allow her the chance to romance her leading man, and creating chemistry with her leading men is what she excels at. So it will be great to see men swoon over her on-screen again. And yes, this film does sound like a retread of “Something’s Gotta Give”. But hopefully it is well-written enough to avoid the comparisons (which I’m sure it won’t regardless how its written).
Oh finally some news about future projects. This sounds like it could be a great film, the potential is there at least. I think they’d have great chemistry and act great together!! I cant find much imformation about it, hoping we will find out soon. Sounds like a better choice than VAMPS at least
She does seem to do several films back to back lately and then take several years off before doing something else. So this could be the first of several film projects that she is currently working on. And this does sound like a much better film than “Vamps”. My question is who will play Pfeiffer’s daughter in the film? Please not Megan Fox!
My only real concern with this project is again the Distribution. Hopefully a good distribution company will pick this up.
Yes i agree Sandy
It could be a FANTASTIC FILM but if they dont get a good distribution company behind it then it could fail
Here is another brief article about it. Has found another distributor for Spain. This film must be ready to start filming soon then.

i wish we had definite news
I am so anxious to find out more about it
I love that she’s back on the screen, and Cheri was a treat, but I really REALLY wish we could see her do some more dramatic pieces. She is such a versatile actress, and can pull off whatever part she is given, but when she’s put into a dramatic role- it’s magical. What a chameleon! Either way, I’d see this movie opening day simply because it’s Michelle.
I prefer her in dramatic roles too. But if she does this film it will probably offer its own challenges. First, Pfeiffer will be playing the hottest GRANDMOTHER on the planet. And its billed as a romantic comedy, meaning she will romance her son-in-law! And this will be the first time she’s romanced someone around her age in a film since “The Story of Us” (and anyone who has seen “What Lies Beneath” will understand why that does not count). My one grievance – I like Pierce Brosnan, but would have preferred Ralph Fiennes!
it is so good to hear about a new project … whatever it could be…it means that she douesn’t want to retire again…I let this one grow before I try to comment it
THANKS A LOT FRAN
Ohhhh, exciting! :D Well you know two beautiful individuals!! I hope she is in this, Ive been waiting for news about a future project for like FOREVER and now, well I hope shes going to do this :) It’ll make us soo happy! <3 xx
