Hairspray Promotional Interview | CBS 21News – July 19, 2007
Reporter - Now check this out, it has an allstar cast but as our Sandy Newton tells us, in the new movie musical Hairspray, Michelle Pfeiffer is really a super-stand out.
Voice over - You can’t stop the music in the new movie with music, Hairspray, the cast reads like a whose who in Hollywood and it’s hard to single out one stand out, but Michelle Pfeiffer, as the conniving mother from hell, sure makes an impact.
Sandy Newton - How much fun for you to be the villain?
Michelle Pfeiffer - I know, I know… well, you know, maybe not the funnest part to play in this movie, kinda lonely…
(both laugh)
SN - Yeah
MP - But I really wanted to be a part of it and that was the part for me
Voice over - This is a remake of the John Waters film set to music, it’s similar to the Tony Award winning broadway musical still.
SN - Musicals are… you know…
MP - Tricky…
SN - Tricky, that’s the word…
MP – Tricky, tricky…
SN - Very tricky
MP - If they don’t, you know, with a drama it can kinda be well this was strong this was a little weak, but in the end, you know, its real hit and miss with a musical, I mean it either hits or it’s a big big fat flop.
Voice over - With John Travolta playing a woman, Queen Latifah, a great young cast and the always excellent Christopher Walken in tow, chances are this won’t be a flop. The film even provided sweet justice for Michelle going back to her days as Catwoman
SN - It was funny talking to Christopher Walken because he was saying “I may be the only man on the planet to resist Michelle Pfeiffers charms”
MP – Awwww… hes so cute
(both laugh)
SN - How much fun was that to play?
MP - It was fun, I mean it was just a blast and it was sweet revenge because you know he tourtured me and think he killed me in Batman
Voice over - Meoww… Hairspray is the perfect way to spend a few hours in cool dark theatres this summer, I say defiinitly check it out. Sandy newton 21 News.
Reporter - And Michelle Pfeiffer still representing, still looking very good, by the way this show if your not familar with it, it’s not really about what you think it’s gonna be about so check it out because it’s got a nice substantial twist to it. It’s really worth your time…
