Michelle Pfeiffer interview at GMTV

In an interview with the GMTV’s Emma Crosby – aired this morning, Friday, 1st of May – Michelle Pfeiffer said her male co-stars are now younger than ever. The actress, who shares steamy scenes with 27-year-old Rupert Friend in Cheri, said: “It’s interesting… the older I get – the younger they get. When I was younger, they were all 50 and 60. I’m going to stop there though – I think I’m heading into dangerous territory if I get any younger.”

On sharing romantic scenes with Rupert Friend, Michelle added: “In the beginning it was a little unnerving, but I got used to it – it wasn’t so bad.”

The Hollywood star went onto tip the British actor for future success, saying: “I think he’s going to be a really big deal, and I think that we were really lucky to get him. When we cast him there were actually a number of productions vying for him – so we kind of snatched him up and just in the nick of time, and he was just a delight.”

Talking about keeping her personal life private, Michelle revealed her dislike of crowds helps her stay out of the public eye. She said: “I think it’s just the lifestyle that I lead happens to be private. I don’t enjoy going to premiers and things like that. I don’t really like crowds – like sales in big department stores.”

Interview transcription

Emma – Interesting dynamics of a relationship isn’t it and it certainly develops throughout the film, what was that like as an actress working with a guy whose, you know, a toyboy, isn’t he…
Michelle – You know, it wasn’t… In the beginning it was a little unnerving but I got use to it (laughs), it wasn’t so bad
Emma – I was gonna say I probably wouldn’t have a problem either but…
Michelle – You know it could of been worse
Emma – Yeah I think so
Michelle – Yeah
Emma – Yeah I think it could of been
Michelle – Interestingly my leading men just seem to the older I get, the younger they get. When I was younger they were all 50 and 60 and now… I don’t think. I’m gonna stop there though, I think I’m heading into dangerous territory…
Emma – Oh really?
Michelle – If they get any younger

Emmma – Rupert Friend we have a feeling about him, we think he’s about to explode onto our screens, of course he’s british and we know him because he’s going out with Keira Knightley… What was he like to work with?… because we think he’s gonna be like you, a very big deal on our screens
Michelle – I think he is gonna be a big deal, and I think that we were really lucky to get him because when we cast him there was actually a number of productions vying for him, so we kinda snatched him up and just in the nick of time and he was just a delight… just a delight

Emma – One of my favorite films is Dangerous Liaisons, which was of course one of your best films, I’m sure you loved doing it aswell 20 years ago now, and it was the same screen writer and same producer and same director… I should say?
Michelle – Uh Hum
Emma – What was that like, I mean going back to the same sort of team 20 years on?
Michelle – Well I don’t think I was ever more excited to start a movie than I was this one
Emma – Oh really?
Michelle – Uh hum, and it takes a lot for me to leave home in the middle of the school year when my kids can’t come with me, my agent and I call those scripts dead of winter.

Emma – We see you when you want to be seen, don’t we… You have your private life which you keep very private don’t you?

Michelle – Uh hum, I think it’s just the lifestyle that I lead happens to be private, I don’t enjoy you know going to, you know, premieres and things like that, I don’t really like crowds . If I wanna go shopping in a certain place, and I really really wanna go shopping in that place I know I’m gonna be followed the rest of the day…
(Michelle and Emma talk over each other)
Michelle – And sometimes…
Emma – Do you ever get dressed in a disguise?
Michelle – It doesn’t work
Emma – Big hats and sunglasses on?
Michelle – It doesn’t work
Emma – oh really?
Michelle – No, because I think the people in the store tip them off, she’s in a brown hair wig and big sunglasses (laughs)

Emma – And a big milestone last year you turned 50, fantastic age, and you know there’s no stopping you
Michelle – Having done this for 30 years and still get excited to get up at 4.30 in the morning you know, and that says a lot.

Emma – One of your lines actually in Cheri is, you know, good body ages well, I think that was that right?
Michelle – Lasts one long time
Emma – Oh lasts one long time, and that kind of…
Michelle – Well I didn’t finish that sentence
Emma – Ok
Michelle – ….With alot of work

[...] I guess the interview should have been recorded during the time in which Michelle was in London doing the promotional interviews of the movie such as the latest one which we watched in GMTV with Emma Crosby. [...]
