Despite the efforts of overzealous stylists, all red carpets are not created equal. So while the Screen Actors Guild Awards had the potential to be the only “school prom” of the season, it’s a bit gauche to doll up for the 14-year-old ceremony with the same swagger one brandishes to honor the 80-year-old Oscars. (Plus, the weather was downpour awful.) Naturally, not everyone agreed. But that’s why others didn’t look as breathtakingly polished oras eternally radiant as Michelle Pfeiffer did in an oh-so-smart-silk-and-wool-crépe Versace. Great looks have not only the right proportions but also the right perspective.
